Dive into 32940 fun!

Enjoy golfing? You’re in luck, for Suntree and Viera boast outstanding golf courses. Like to go wild? Feel at home at Brevard Zoo and 32940’s wildlife areas. Culture vulture? The world of entertainment, from symphony to Broadway, is right in your backyard.

For lovers of the links, the Viera/Suntree community pleases with championship venues such as Suntree Country Club, Viera East Golf Course, Duran Golf Club and Baytree National Golf Links.

Closing in on four decades and recently renovated, Suntree Country Club is the grand dame of area courses. With two 18-hole Robert Trent Jones-designed courses where legends such as Chi Chi Rodriguez, Arnold Palmer and Don January once played, Suntree Country Club is all about exceptional facilities. You cannot afford not to be a member if you like golf, tennis, swimming, fine dining or just having a good time.

“A variety of affordable membership opportunities is available for all ages and interests,” said membership director Eileen Bentley. With a motto of “why dream it, come live it,” Suntree pleases not just with golf, but also with tennis courts(eight of them), award-winning dining(two restaurants), oversized swimming pool and a calendar of monthly activities to engage the entire family.

Gary Player’s signature course, Baytree National Golf Links earned hearty thumbs up from Golf Digest, which gave the course four stars.

Don’t’ be fooled by the gently undulating terrain of Duran Golf Club. This is a course that challenges both novice and pro. The club’s 7,100-square-foot club house, home to the Tradewinds restaurant, transports visitors to the British West Indies. The restaurant is open to the public for casual lunch, a very special Sunday brunch and cocktails. The toughest choice here is to choose from indoor or outdoor dining options.

“Joe Lee never built a bad golf course,” proclaimed Jack Nicklaus. Look at Lee’s 18-hole course at Viera East Golf Course and you’ll agree with Jack. The exciting and vibrant course takes full advantage of Viera’s native landscape. This is a challenging course that is pleasing to the eyes and a joy to play.

To look good and perform well on the links, you need the right gear, which you can find at Golf USA in Suntree. A locally owned franchise of the international golf retail giant, Golf USA stocks all major brands of golf equipment, including Adams, Callaway, Cobra, Titleist, Ping, Taylor Made and Cleveland. “Our employees are professionals certified in custom fitting irons, drivers and putters,” said owner Martha Scholz. “We use several types of technology to aid in custom fitting, including lasers, Doppler radar and golf shafts containing computer chips. The end result is that each club is specifically suited to the individual.”

The shop’s excellent service was recognized by Callaway, which named it the #1 custom fitter of Callaway products in the Southeastern United States in 2010. “Golf USA also works closely with women and junior golfers to ensure that they have equipment that is sized correctly,” added Scholz.

The store’s large selection of accessories, footwear, gloves, bags and balls from all major manufacturers makes Golf USA truly a one-stop golf shop. It is also the go-to place for repairs. Certified technicians can regrip and reshaft and lengthen or shorten clubs. “We pride ourselves on our personalized customer service,” said Scholz.

The natural side of the 32940 area is very rich, thanks to places such as the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, also known as Viera Wetlands. These easily accessible 200 acres are part of the Great Florida Birding Trail and a destination for birders, nature photographers and the casual visitor.

Africa, South America, Australia and Asia join wild Florida at Brevard Zoo, just a few minutes’ drive from Viera Wetlands. Winner of Trip Advisor’s 2012 Certificate of Excellence, this world-class small zoo leads in conservation, education and entertainment. You can kayak by the zebras of Expedition Africa or zip over the wetlands along the Treetop Trek zipline. With Rhino Encounters, you can get up close and personal – and yet still be very safe – with some very awesome beasts. Get beyond the beaten path in Expedition Africa by joining a Wild Encounters tour, or just spend quality time feeding the park’s unforgettable giraffes. At the zoo’s Paws on Play, the entire family can enjoy water play, an aquarium, fort building and an animal petting area. Seasonal activities such as Boo at the Zoo, Bonsai Weekend and Jazzoo add even more reasons to visit the zoo on a regular basis.

Those who prefer their entertainment indoors and on the stage head to the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts, a magnet for A-list stars such as Jerry Seinfeld, Tony Bennett, Bonnie Raitt and Liza Minelli and a venue that routinely hosts the best Broadway touring companies, orchestra and ballet performances and a variety of children’s performing arts that range from the gravity-defying Peking acrobats to the incomparable Charlotte’s Web.

Of course, living in an area blessed with some many entertainment opportunities attracts many visitors. Guests from out of town can enjoy the comfort of excellent, convenient lodging at hotels such as the Holiday Inn Melbourne-Viera Conference Center, a smoke-free facility with on-site fitness center, outdoor pool and delicious dining at the RendezVous restaurant. Savvy locals know that the $9.95 dinner specials offer unbeatable value and they also often head for the hotel for a weekend’s getaway. The neighboring lounge by the RendezVous is a relaxation oasis where guests can catch up on sports and news on flat-screen televisions or sit back and enjoy live music on Thursdays and Fridays.

Whether you’re for the birds, a culture vulture or a fan of golf’s Golden Bear and Great White Shark, you’ll go wild for the fun in Suntree and Viera!
